PHARMAKON (Sacred Bones, USA)
Margaret Chardiet is a multidisciplinary sound artist born and based in New York City. Raised among underground musicians and artists, Margaret was surrounded by a collective of the city's passionate, cultural remnants. Instead of pursuing higher education, she began the experimental project Pharmakon in 2006, at the age of 16. Pharmakon as a project, entity, and process has evolved and exists in true versatility, growing alongside (or more within) Margaret's personal experience and self-taught philosophies. Her work as a whole is an enforced introspection, a tribute to wildness and visceral nature, which performatively rejects a society that has never accepted anything it could not also exploit. Chardiet uses electronic synthesis as a tool to transfer this introspection physiologically and intra-spatially into the bodies of her audience. Timbre becomes temperament. Wildness, a social contagion or biorhythm. Margaret has also played in many punk bands that reach out to a larger international D.I.Y. music community and has composed original music for the films Transfiguration (2017) and Sound of Metal (2019).
KOLLAPS (AU)
Until The Day I Die is Kollaps's third LP for Cold Spring Records. Released in June 2022, the album is a relentless and visceral assault on the senses, continuing the band's idiosyncratic approach to sound creation. Until The Day I Die is an uncompromising force of harsh post-industrial music, conveyed through overarching themes of damnation and salvation; violence, romance, sexuality, and addiction. Much of the album's creation and lyrical conceptualization has been stylized and presented through the use of William S. Burroughs' cut-up method.
A variety of metals and raw materials were used in the creation of the album, including metal grates, a rusty lifting device, cement cylinders, field recordings, hammering on various decayed objects, broken amplifiers, an exposed reverb tank, various synthesizers, and the infamous metal spiral—a rough self-constructed invention that has become iconic in its use across Kollaps' triptych of releases and extensive touring history in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.
Until The Day I Die represents a tectonic shift in production methods compared to its predecessors and was written, recorded, and mixed entirely in-house in a self-built studio above the Mario Bernasconi sculpture museum in Lugano, Switzerland.
LANA DEL RABIES (USA)
Lana Del Rabies is a captivating force within underground dark electronic music and the outer edges of heavy music. Her unique blend of industrial, gothic noise, and experimental metal delves deep into the esoteric brutality of human existence in a world overshadowed by the threat of apocalypse. Known for her intense and immersive live performances, Lana Del Rabies masterfully holds her audience captive in catharsis. The music calls from beyond, revealing surprising melodic and melancholic moments within the tumult of noise and angst.
Her first two albums, In The End I Am A Beast and Shadow World, released by the Los Angeles-based label Deathbomb Arc, showcase the futuristic goth sound that matured on her acclaimed 2023 record, STREGA BEATA.
