Oceanen x Clandestino presenterar: Claire Rousay

First there are choppy machine sounds and waves of strings. Then a guitar, leading us into an autotuned ballad about oral sex and presumptive guilt. The song is entitled Head and can be found on claire rousay's latest album Sentiment, a quiet emotional journey through shifting soundscapes.

Shall we call it emo-ambient? The diary of a broken heart, where attachment problems meet field recordings of dripping water taps and coffee shop noise. Now, in case that sounds a little artsy, it should be pointed out that Sentiment is the closest thing to pop music we've heard from claire rousay this far. And the first time the guitar is allowed to take centre stage.

rousay started out as a pianist at the age of four. That was in Canada, but later, her family relocated to Texas, where she traded the piano for percussion.

Her compositions are not only revealing, bordering on naked. She is also extremely prolific, having already released a string of albums and EPs, many of them collaborations with musicians such as More Eaze and Patrick Shiroishi, or with visual artist Dani Toral. A constant in her work is the searching and experimentation in ever new formats. Not with the purpose to subvert or shock, but rather to find new ways to connect: how best to touch our emotions?

Accessibility

The Cultural Center Oceanen is a Q-marked culturally historical building, which is challenging when it comes to accessibility. We do our best to have as many people as possible visit us. When visiting us with mobility aids the best-suited entrance is through the stage. This entrance is accessed via Gathenhielmska trädgården. The entrance is locked, please email us the day before your visit or the latest Friday at 16:00 if you are visiting us during the weekend. We have a wheelchair-accessible bathroom. Personal assistants do not need to purchase their own ticket, but we ask you to contact us in advance so we can issue a ticket for the person.
Please note that flashing lights may occur during concerts and events. For questions regarding accessibility email Mia Herman at mia@oceanen.com.
