Barnens Ocean
Barnens Ocean is an initiative and program aimed for children and their grown ups. Through different collaborations with a wide range of events and workshops Barnens Ocean is a place where all children of the city can meet, experience and explore art and culture in different ways together with other children and grown ups.
Barnens Ocean (translates to; “The children’s Ocean”) started in 2020 with support from the City of Gothenburg. The project was called “Musik för barn” and was carried out in collaboration with “Jazz är farligt” and Elena Wolay. In 2021, the project was granted development support from the Västra Götaland Region and has since been able to continue with funding from Statens Kulturråd.
We aim to offer high-quality performances, concerts and workshops for children and their grown ups at an affordable price. With Barnens Ocean, we want to connect the city and the region, and lower the barriers for partaking in cultural events, together with our collaboration partners Fryshuset – Barn till ensamma mammor and Blå Stället. Barnens Ocean was created to entertain, inspire, engage, and be a gateway for children to connect with their own creativity. Most of our events are located at Oceanen’s stage. At times we venture out to Gathenhielmska Huset’s garden or to World Dance Company’s stage, Andra Våningen on the second floor in our building.
Many wonderful performances and workshops have been experienced at Barnens Ocean, for example; the dance performance “Jazz Birds”, Son Cubano with Raúl Lara, Afra Rubino, and Johan Bengtsson, “Magen i skogen” with Dinn Dinn Bulo, Adjö Herr Muffin, Weaving Workshop with Felicia Rauma Andersen, Fågelfabler, Improvisation workshop with Lisen Rylander Löve and Karin Johansson, Förvandling, Moonwater workshop with Häxskolan and Gul!
